Day 3 November 24, 2008

Having the grandchildren here sure has made me reflect upon how much my own children have grown to become young men. It seems like just yesterday they were babies and I was chasing them around.
Piper has been playing with Bryce quite a bit. She’ll announce “We’re Hide and Seeking!” She’ll put her face against the wall and count “One! Two! FOUR!” and run off to find Bryce, who can never get far on a mere count to “Four.” She finds him, he screams “Boo,” and she’s full of screams and giggles. She never wants to hide, only seek.
I shouldn’t have worried about the kids not taking a liking to me. When I got home from work today Piper ran to me and said “Grandma! I missed you!” Little Gavin ran over with his arms out wanting to be picked up. He buried his head on my shoulder and held on for dear life. They both did the same when “Big Daddy” came home from work.
I did manage to score a dental appointment for Bryce and myself on Wednesday morning. We’re going to get the cleaning and x-rays, and “If you have something that needs to be done right away we can do that at the same time.” Maybe I’ll actually be able to eat on my left side again! I’ll hurry home from the dentist to drop Bryce off, then run out to the base for my doctor appointment that afternoon. Then I’ll rush home, make dinner, then make the pies for Thursday and collapse in a heap in my bed as soon as possible. If I get up at my usual time, I could probably get both pies made before I have to leave for the dentists office. Hmmm … that’s an idea.

The Grandchildren – Day 1 November 23, 2008

Any array of random thoughts for the day.
First and foremost:
When doing your Holiday/Christmas cards this year, take one card and
send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

Thank you.
Yesterday I took Piper to the playground in our subdivision. We were gone maybe half an hour, 45 minutes. When we got back she ran to her Mom, hugged her knees and said “Mom! I missed you!!” How sweet is that?
Piper calls Gavin “Boy.” She can’t say Gavin, so it’s “Boy! No. no, Boy!” Haha. She calls The Hub “Daddy.” He does look an awful lot like her daddy. We told her no, that’s not your daddy, that’s Aki. She says “Nooooo, that’s my daddy!”
While we were at the park, Piper said something about playing in the dirt, and I said “It’s too dirty, isn’t it?” So every time she got off the slide, she’d bend over, and throw a couple of handfuls of dirt and say “It’s too dirty!” Later, she was throwing dirt in the bushes, and I said “Whatcha doing, Piper?” and she answered “I’m cleaning up!” Too cute.
Dee took Piper to the movies last night, so we stayed with Gavin. He was a little snuggle bunny. I was worried he’d cry, being left alone with us, but he did fine. At one point, he was reaching for the CD’s and I said “No no, Gavin” in a very non-threatening way. He looked at me, smiled and came over to cuddle for a minute. Later, he walked near the CD’s and stopped, reached out, then shook his head no. Good boy! He’s much quieter than Piper, but more emotional … just like his daddy was at that age. (Though, his daddy was never a quiet one.)
